"Confessions of a Small Working Studio" Column Celebrates Second Year

Lisa Invited to Speak at AES
Lisa, along with Business Partners Stephen Joseph Antonelli and Kevin Hill were invited by SPARS (the Society of Professional Audio Recording Services) to speak on a panel (Called "Lessons from Savvy Business Owners") at the 131st AES Convention held in New York City. Lisa, Steve, and Kevin spoke about the success of PopMark over the last year, and how they’ve made things happen. The panel discussion was a huge hit. One attendee called it "the most relevant panel at the event."


Lisa Working with Former Bad Company Bassist Paul Cullen
Through her company PopMark, Lisa recently entered into an agreement with former Bad Company Bassist, Paul Cullen. Lisa and her team were hired to develop an effective marketing/PR/social media strategy for Cullen, who has launched a new company called Unplugged and Uncorked. As a result of the PR efforts, Cullen has received attention from journalists and bloggers. Sales for his wine are up, as well. As of this post, PopMark was in the process of revamping copy on Cullen’s website. More exciting things are sure to come in 2012.


Ameri-Dry Campaign Big Success
PopMark has also been working with business client, Ameri-Dry. Lisa and her team launched a new website for the company, developed an expansive marketing, social media, PR, and TV ad buying campaign for the company. The good news: the company surpassed its sales goals for 2011 and enjoyed a more successful year than expected. Lisa and the team at PopMark are currently involved in developing a new branding campaign for the company, which will include a new look and several spots, all of which will be unveiled in early 2012.


Sweet Leda
Lisa and her team at PopMark developed, designed, and launched a website (in conjunction with Hiptobe); embarked on a public relations campaign, and produced a promo video for the neo soul band, Sweet Leda, which enjoyed incredible success in 2011. Not only did the band release its first full length album "Need The Music", but it has moved 2,000 copies independently and was recently nominated for Best Indie Band/Artist in MD/DC in the 1st Annual Tri State Indie Music Awards.


Brett Gay
Lisa worked with R&B Singer/Songwriter Brett Gay to create a website (in conjunction with Hiptobe) to promote the up and comers original music and vocal chops. She also created a custom social media strategy for Gay, who is beginning to gain industry notoriety.

Lisa interviews recording studio heavyweights for Mix Magazine
Lisa recently interviewed Larry Sheridan, owner of The Parlor Studios in Nashville (www.parlorproductions.com), a Grammy-Award winning recording studio at which such mega artists like Rascal Flatts, Michael McDonald, George Jones, and Jimmy Buffett have recorded their projects; Andy Symons of The Lodge Recording Studios in Indianapolis (www.thelodgestudios.com), where artists from Pink to Sandi Patty have recorded; and Perry Geyer of Cybersound Recording Studios in NYC and Boston (www.cybersoundmusic.com), which boasts such clients as the Jonas Brothers, Sarah McLachlan, and Pink Floyd. Filmmaker consults with Lisa on piece about Bluebird Cafe
Lisa has been asked to work on a piece about a documentary being made about the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville, which is being written and produced by Filmmaker Eric Temple. Lisa will be traveling to Nashville to chronicle the experience. Check back for details soon!


Lisa to interview Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame Nominee
In October, Lisa met 2010 Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame Nominee Darlene Love. She will be interviewing Love for a piece that will showcase her amazing resilience, the movie based on her life story (which is currently in production), and her new CD, which will be released this Spring from Sony Music. Lisa writes scripts for FDA
Lisa recently wrapped up six scripts for the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) "Consumer Update" series. Topics ranged from avoiding medication mistakes to health fraud to body building product warnings. The videos can be seen at www.fda.gov/consumer.


Lisa wraps up new website copy for Studio Unknown
Lisa recently revamped the copy for Studio Unknown's website, an audio post facility and recording studio for which she serves as Creative Director. Check out the newly written website at www.studiounknown.com.


Professional Products consults with Lisa on press releases
Professional Products, Inc., a design-build company with which Lisa has enjoyed a long relationship, asked Lisa to write several press releases announcing its latest projects, a design/integration project for Black Entertainment Television (BET) and a design, integration, and engineering project for Hilton Hotels. The press releases will be added to Professional Products' website soon, www.professionalproducts.com.


Lisa interviews filmmakers for two articles on the importance of sound
Lisa recently wrote two articles featuring filmmaker David A. Cross, whose film Respire (www.respiremovie.com) premiered in October, and Caleb Stewart, an editor and filmmaker whose government videos for the U.S. State Department can be seen at www.america.gov and whose latest comedic work can be seen at www.hillrats.tv. The articles appeared in TIVA-DC's monthly publication (www.tivadc.org.)


Article featuring music industry bigwigs to appear in Mix Magazine
Lisa and Kevin Hill recently landed a regular column in Mix Magazine that will focus on the crucial role that small studios play in the music industry. The first article featured interviews with some major players in the music industry - Engineer/Co-Owner Brian Reeves and Co-Owner Kevin Anderson of LA's The Jungle Room (www.jungleroom.net), whose client list includes Disney, Sony, and classic artists like Billy Idol and Carlos Santana; Film Composer Charles Denler (www.charlesdenler.com), who holds the record for having more upcoming films than any other film and television composer to date, according to the Film Music Network; and Owner/Engineer Doug McBride of Gravity Studios in Chicago (www.gravitystudios.com), which has played host to The Smashing Pumpkins, Goo Goo Dolls, Buddy Guy, and many more.
